ASDA Club Meeting

July 2005

ASDA Meeting: July 6, 2005

Attendees: Ron Bent, Cathy Sankey, Mike Jorgensen, Cher Benda, Diana O’Brien, Rich O’Brien, Janet Marsden, Keith Marsden, Merritt Reed, Ron Reed, Mike Oster, Clay Caldwell, Orrin Marcano, Rick Horr, Sue Blakney, Ken Cameron, Heather Cameron

Minutes:

Reading and approving the minutes: the June minutes were approved without reading because they were posted to the website.

Treasurer’s report: The final tally for the scuba sale was $425. The Whale Dive deposits are $500 paid. We have a new member, Gordon Rowe. Welcome Gordon!
Membership dues are still coming in – if you have not renewed, you must do so before you dive. Please make sure to sign and date the membership form and return it with the check. The monthly report is on the website. Thank you everyone for supporting the club.

Old Business:

a. We discussed the idea of having an event coordinator at the last meeting. and setting up a box to be passed to coordinators that would have membership forms, sign-in sheets, waivers, etc. This seems like good idea, we should have a list of up-to-date members for diving and other events, and have forms on hand as well.
b. Lifetime members: we have discussed this and come to a conclusion that there are no ‘lifetime members’. If people become inactive, they will move to an inactive list but we will still send them monthly newsletters as long as we have a valid email address for them.
c. Website: Clay suggested upgrading the club website for 49.95 per year. This would eliminate pop-ups and allow us to combine our site. We voted to approve this change.

Dive Site Stewardship Program: The general consensus is that the Seaway Trail locations on Lake Ontario are too far away, plus we don’t usually dive there. However, there is still interest in stewarding one or more locations in our area (Skaneateles Lake or possibly Owasco). Janet will do more research into the regulations to find out if this is possible.

Whale Dive: The reservations are made and deposits are paid. 15 spots are confirmed, and 10 have paid their deposits. We can go as high as 24. This is a great deal! 3 nights, all meals, 4 dives (2 Sat., 2 Sun., fills included), plus a Whale Watch Boat Expedition. All for only $156 Canadian ($140 non-divers)! Get your deposits to Diana O’Brien soon – August 5,6,7,8. Monday and Friday will be travel days to get to Tadoussac and return. For more information, check auburnskindivers.org or contact Diana O’Brien.

July 9th River Dive: The trip is filled, scaled back to 2 dives in the am.

3rd annual Woodlot Weekend: The event will be at Gary and Sue Blakney’s Woodlot Camp on Skaneateles Lake and will be July 29th-31st. We would like people who are participating in the watermelon carving to bring a small donation for carving prizes, it need not be dive related. We also need volunteers for setup, cleanup, food, etc. For details, go to www.auburnskindivers.org .

New Business: Mike Jorgensen would like to plan a dive trip to Houston to dive the Flower Gardens and the oil rigs in the Gulf Of Mexico. The trip will be July 4th 2006 (exact dates to follow). The trip will be a 2-3 day live aboard on a 100 foot boat with dorm-style accommodations. In 2005, the price was $385 for 3 days, 10-11 dives. Air fare is not included.

Congratulations to John Wickwire for completing his 500th dive!!
