ASDA Meeting: June 8, 2005

Attendees: Ron Bent, Cathy Sankey, Mike Jorgensen, Cher Benda, Diana O’Brien, Janet Marsden, Keith Marsden, Merritt Reed, Ron Reed, Mike Oster

Minutes:

1. Old Business: no old business

2. Reading and approving the minutes: the May minutes were approved without reading because they were posted to the website.

3. Treasurer’s report: Membership dues are coming in slowly – if you have not renewed, please remember to do so before you dive. Some people have been sending checks without forms and vice versa. Please make sure to sign and date the membership form and return it with the check. Thank you. The monthly report is on the website.

4. Scuba Sale: Cher reported that we had a preliminary net on the scuba sale of $338.75. This is less than in past years, but still respectable. Many thanks to all who participated! The club voted to give a free 1 year membership to Jim Howell, as soon as he gets his open water certification. Jim has attended our sale for the last 3 years (at least) and has some dive equipment. What he was trying for was the free open water class, but this year he decided he just couldn’t wait any more and went and signed up at Finger Lakes Scuba right after the sale. Way to go Jim, and good luck! We’re looking forward to welcoming him to ASDA.

5. Seaway Trail Dive Site Stewardship Program: Phil Church got back to us on the dive site selection. At least for a while the program will be limited to Seaway Trail dive sites. This means that if we want to steward the log jam or other Skaneateles Lake sites, we can’t do it under the Seaway Trail program. However, they still want stewards for the Lake Ontario site(s) between Sodus Pt and Pulteneyville.

6. Whale Dive: The reservations are made and 13 spots are confirmed, another 5 are possibles. We need 16, but can go as high as 24. This is a great deal! 3 nights, all meals, 4 dives (2 Sat., 2 Sun., fills included), plus a Whale Watch Boat Expedition. All for only $156 Canadian ($140 non-divers)! Get your deposits to Diana O’Brien soon – August 5,6,7,8. Monday and Friday will be travel days to get to Tadoussac and return. For more information, check auburnskindivers.org

7. New business: We discussed the idea of having an event coordinator, and setting up a box to be passed to coordinators that would have membership forms, sign-in sheets, waivers, etc.

8. Thank you notes were requested for those who donated to the scuba sale: Gary Tanner, Dan Quackenbush, Henry MacDonald, Warren Miller, Cher Benda and RJ Bent. Janet will draft and mail these.

9. July 9th River Dive: We still need 4 more people to fill this trip. On the St Lawrence with Above N Below – 2 dives in the am, 2 in the pm. A great time, the best wreck diving in the Northeast! Contact Clay Caldwell for details.

10. Website: Clay suggested upgrading the club website for 49.95 per year. This would eliminate pop-ups and allow us to combine our site. Please email any thoughts on this to asdamarsden@direcway.com.

11. Woodlot Weekend: thanks to Gary and Sue, who will once again be hosting the Woodlot Weekend at the beautiful Blakney Sisters Camp on Skaneateles Lake. The main event will be the Underwater Watermelon Carving Contest. For details, go to www.auburnskindivers.org or contact Janet at asdamarsden@direcway.com.

12. Congratulations to Ron and Merritt Reed for completing their first New York dive!
