ASDA Meeting: August - September Meeting Minutes, September 14, 2005

Minutes:

Reading and approving the minutes: the July minutes were approved without reading because they were posted to the website.

Treasurer’s report: The complete monthly report is on the website.

a. Woodlot Weekend: Sue Blakney was reimbursed for food for the Woodlot Weekend.

b. Whale Dive: The final cost for 14 people (10 divers, 4 non-divers) was $1997.65 US. Diana was reimbursed for charges made on her credit card. The club was reimbursed for deposits paid for reservations. A few divers still need to reimburse Diana for dive permits ($5.75).

c. Membership dues: Dues are still coming in – if you have not renewed, you must do so before you dive. Please make sure to sign and date the membership form and return it with the check.

 

Old Business:

a. Dive Site Stewardship Program: No update, Janet did not attend.

15th Annual Project Aware Dive: September 24, 2005, 9am-12noon at the village docks in Skaneateles. Bob DeWitt is coordinator. Bob is bringing juice and donuts, plus onion bags for trash collection. There will be a village truck standing by for the trash. Finger Lakes Scuba is donating free tank fills for divers that participate. This event is open to all divers, it’s not necessary to be an ASDA member to participate.

17th Annual ASDA Pumpkin Dive: October 14th -16th at beautiful Fallbrook Camp, Skaneateles Lake.

We need volunteers to help with food, cleanup, and activity setup. Please contact the club officers or committee members to volunteer. We are also requesting that members donate appropriate prizes for the pumpkin dive – they need not be expensive or dive-related.

The final ASDA Wednesday dive of the season will be at Fallbrook. Dive at 6pm.

The weekend will kick off Friday with shore dive at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. The October ASDA club meeting will be held on Friday the 14th instead of the usual Wednesday.

Saturday will include breakfast for overnighters, underwater trivia and navigation course, lunch, the famous nighttime pumpkin carving contest, prizes, catered dinner, and bonfire on the beach. Shore diving available during the day Saturday.

Sunday morning, breakfast for overnighters and cleanup.

The club voted to give the Muscari family Pumpkin Dive T-shirts in appreciation for their generous donation of the use of Fallbrook and $100 to cover their expenses such as electricity.

It is absolutely necessary that all guests complete and sign the ASDA liability release form. Parents are responsible for supervising their children and their children’s actions and safety. Dive flags are required for divers in the water.

Lodging and Cleaning Committee: Chris Matijas and Cathy Sankey.

Saturday night overnight lodgers will be responsible for helping with cleanup on Sunday.

Food Committee: Diana O’Brien, Darlene Cashin, Donna Seiselmyer.

Dishwasher detail: RJ Bent

Friday night: Janet Marsden will provide tacos and burritos with all the trimmings. Bring your own beverages.

Saturday: Breakfast will be provided by Rick Horr. Lunch will be hots and burgers (provided by ASDA), and soup (Janet: pumpkin soup, Cher: soup, Joan: chili). Dinner will be barbecue chicken with salads and sides catered by Auburn Poultry, cake for dessert. Coffee, tea and cider will be provided for Saturday lunch and dinner. Any other snacks or beverages, bring your own.

Saturday dinner will be $12 for adults, $6 for children. Please send reservations and checks to Diana O’Brien by October 5th.

New Business:

a. Mike Jorgensen will be shipping out to serve 6-8 months with the Seabee Reserves Mobil Construction Unit 21 in the Middle East at the beginning of October. ASDA will waive dues for a family membership for the Jorgensens for 2006. We thank Mike for his service and wish him a safe time overseas and we will try to support Anna, Jordan and Erin in any way we can during this time. Please inform the officers if you know of any other ASDA member who is serving, we would like to make this a club policy.

Buddy List Updates: new ASDA standard operating procedures under new business shall include a role call of new members and introductions. New member information, including names and contact information shall be entered into the meeting minutes so that all members can keep their buddy list up-to-date.
