Underwater Pumpkin Dives

We have held Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contests since 1989

Each year the competition seems to heighten.

Our club members carve better-looking pumpkins underwater at night than most people could carve on land.

17th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Dive was held October 15, 2005 at Fallbrook on the West side of Skaneateles Lake.

Another fantastic weekend! Our heartfelt thanks to all who participated, we had over 50 people attending - what a great turnout. Intrepid divers braved chilly waters to follow the navigation dive, and even braver souls ventured into the water in the dark to carve pumpkins by dive lights! Our committee chairs and volunteers did a magnificent job - very special thanks to everyone who pitched in to make this a truly great club event – especially the dive setup team, the cleanup crew, the food committee, and all those who donated the fabulous prizes! We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to the local dive shops, Finger Lakes Scuba in Auburn and Aquatic World in N. Syracuse, who have been long time supporters of ASDA and who continued the tradition this year. Finally, many, many thanks to Chris Matijas and the Muscari family, who once again made it possible for us to hold our special event at beautiful Fallbrook.

15th & 16th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Dives were held at the Fallbrook camp on Skaneateles Lake [the west side] October 2003-4.    The events included lots of open water diving, an an underwater scavenger hunt, an underwater buoyancy course and our after dark pumpkin carving contest  There were lots of outdoor activities, a fabulous dinner, a great campfire -- great friends, great food, great memories!!!

Everyone brought a dish-to-pass and their own drinks.

October 18, 1997 - A dozen members of Auburn Skin Divers Club braved the elements late last month to carve pumpkins under the dark depths of Skaneateles Lake.

Carvings ranged from traditional faces to aquatic themes.  Two divers performed their handy work in costumes ... one as Cinderella, the other as a ghoulish skeleton draped in chains.

The winning entry of a small fish in the open toothed jaws of a large fish with seaweed fangs, was created by Simeon ... Second place was a depiction of a Disney Castle complete with fireworks, created by Lanny Hicks.  The third place pumpkin was carved by club President Greg Harris, who designed a petrography of a sea turtle.
